General courses
The aim of this module is to provide students with knowledge about history, principles, subjects, the regulation of main areas of international law and human rights, an overview of the fundamentals of international relations and to introduce the techniques of academic writing and the methodology of legal research.This module is obligatory for all students.
The student who has completed the module:
1. Understands the principles of international law and human rights;
2. Is knowledgeable about the history, theories, subjects and the regulation of main areas of international law and human rights;
3. Explains the fundamentals of international relations;
4. Analyses the conduct of states and non-state actors, applying on international legal regulation and bearing in mind the prevailing situation in international relations;
5. Has practical and methodological preparation for the research in the field of international law and human rights.
Elective module
The goal of the module is to give the student a possibility to acquire in-depth knowledge in the areas of international law and human rights corresponding to his/her interests. The student chooses courses in the amount of 30 ECTS from the listed courses according to his/her preferences.
The student who has completed the module:
1. Has in-depth knowledge in the areas of international law and human rights corresponding to his/her interests;
2. Is aware of developments, restrictions and challenges in these areas and offers solutions to problems;
3. Assesses critically the conduct of states and non-state actors with regard to the regulation in these areas;
4. Solves independently more complex problems regarding international law and human rights, e.g., finds necessary legal sources and selects appropriate methods;
5. Has acquired necessary specific knowledge and skills, which prepare the student for practical training, and support the writing and defence of the master’s thesis.
Practice
The goal of the module is to give the student a possibility to deepen and apply the knowledge of international law or human rights, acquired during the studies, and to gain practical professional skills and experience.
The student who has completed the module:
1. Has deepened and supplemented the knowledge of international law or human rights, acquired during the studies;
2. Has applied acquired knowledge in different practical situations;
3. Has developed practical skills to solve more complex legal problems and draft legal documents;
4. Has improves team-work and communication skills;
5. Has familiarised himself/herself with the culture, ethics and customs of professional organisations, and observes them during the practical training.
The student chooses one practice according to his/her preferences:

Optional courses
The student chooses courses in the amount of 6 ECTS from the courses offered by the University of Tartu or other universities according to his/her preferences.
Master's thesis
The aim of the thesis is to study thoroughly issues, problems and developments related to international law and human rights, to collect theoretical and empirical materials, to analyse them using appropriate theories and methods and, as a result, to write an independent research paper.
The student who has defended the thesis is able to:

identify and formulate research problems

choose appropriate theoretical approaches and scientific methods

research and analyse critically legal sources and empirical material

structure research logically, use correct terminology and format properly a research paper

draw conclusions based on research and analysis

offer and formulate solutions to research problems

explain and defend personal opinions and proposed solutions in a debate
The defence of the master’s thesis is compulsory.

Грант на бесплатное обучение выдается на конкурсной основе. Для получения гранта необходимо предоставить:

документ о законченном высшем образовании/степени Бакалавра ;

документ, подтверждающий уровень знания английского языка (TOEFL/IELTS (academic)/PTE Academic/Cambridge English: FCE, CAE,CPE)

мотивационное письмо;

онлайн-заявление на обучение.
Для кандидатов, не прошедших конкурс на грант, возможно обучение на платной основе.
Стоимость обучения оплачивается в ЕВРО. Оплата по семестрам - 2 000 ЕВРО/семестр или 4 000 ЕВРО/год (эквивалент в рублях рассчитывается согласно курсу ЦБРФ на день заключения договора).
